How do you capture something that was meant to be free? How do you colour something that has no colour of it's own? How do you put onto a flat white board something that is so translucent that it has a surface yet also a depth? How do you create the movement and dance of the crashing, tumbling crescendos into something so static?
I have always been captivated by the freedom of water, be it a waterfall, ocean or mountain stream; so life giving yet more powerful than any man. It is gentle enough to nurse a baby, yet strong enough to cut through rock. It is the sustainer of all life. Yet, for me as an artist, it's fluidity, luster and life has been the hardest thing to portray.
My poor attempts remind me of our Creator. We see the water in the picture, but it is not the water, it merely points to the real thing. And so we, with all nature, should live our lives in such a way that we reflect our Creator and point others to the One who is the Author and Sustainer of all life.
"For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago." Ephesians 2:10, The Bible
