Chippy was a budgie who loved to sing. Morning, noon and night he would fill the house with his uplifting melody. That was until tragedy struck! One day, his owner was hoovering out the debris from the bottom of the cage when the telephone rang. As she reached for the receiver... the nozzle lifted and THWAP!!!!...Chippy was sucked up the hoover! Instantly she dropped the phone, switched off the hoover, ripped open the dust bag and retrieved the frigid, filthy bird. Quick as a flash, she dashed into the kitchen, turned on the cold tap and washed him down, then dashing to the bedroom she blew the bedraggled bird with her hair dryer and put him back into his cage.
Chippy survived his ordeal...but he doesn't sing very much these days.
In contrast, have you noticed the 'blackbird singing in the dead of night'? About 2 hours before dawn, when the night is darkest, a beautiful fruity song pierces the night air. Soon all the birds are joining in a heavenly dawn chorus. Why? I believe they know the night is almost over and the sun is about to rise upon a new day.
I wonder how we react when the night is darkest and we are struck with tragedy, disappointments, loss, betrayal, illness, debt...Do we, like Chippy, loose our song, or do we sing in faith, knowing that, as Psalm 30 says, "Tears may linger at nightfall, but joy comes in the morning."
The bible also says,"Let EVERYTHING that has breath, praise the Lord.
That means you and I!
