What is it about the ocean that is so captivating? Why is this the place that millions of people flock to year after year for their rest, relaxation and rejuvenation?
Could it be something to do with the wide, open space; the vastness of the expanse where sea and sky meet? Perhaps something in our soul connects with God, who refocuses us away from our small problems and gives us a right perspective in the scale of eternity.
Maybe it is to do with the regular rhythm of wave crashing upon wave…always has, always will do. Many years before us and many years into the future, the timeless ocean waves crash and fall, turn and drift. Each unique, yet each the same. There is no limit to their number, they never cease. Like God’s infinite love for us, poured out for an eternity, He never changes, is always there and longs to lavish this love upon us.
Maybe it is knowing that there is something beyond the horizon that our eyes have not yet seen…the call to see beyond what is now, to look ahead, to dream, to wonder.
Maybe it’s the invitation to bathe in the cool, refreshing water. God too invites us to submerge ourselves in His love.
For me wide open spaces are a place to dream. When I began to put brush to blank canvas, I first saw this picture in my mind’s eye. The dream became a reality as the picture took form. I dare you today to dream. Dream of what could be, what will be as one, very strange school year ends and beyond the horizon lay beautiful new days of opportunity.
Wherever you are at today, take a moment to thank God for the beauty of His creation, His everlasting love and His invitation to come to Him. Rest is His presence, for God is bigger than all our problems and He loves you… rest and dream!
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9, The Bible
